   Les Treize Glorieux
Contrastes & Cie
The group of proposed artists : Jean Baier, Karl Brandstätter, Michel Braun, Haiba Haas, Hans Hoffmann, Gerard Imof, Konrad Koller, Robert Mittringer, Aldo Pancheri, Ernst Skricka, Wolfgang Stifter, Alain Zerbini, gravitating round Rudolf Haas, plunge their roots into surrealism, constructivism, or abstraction of the Fifties, with the examples of artists like Henry Michaux, Wols, Georges Mathieu, Jackson Pollock or Cy Twombly.

Of various origins, Swiss, Austrian, Italian, the works of the exhibited artists have in common the traces, the writing, the drawing, a linear and graphic aspect, corresponding to their individual emotional and intellect, expressed in a way of apparent sketches, spontaneity and unfinished work. In answer to a vision of the instant, to the inner order that animates them, the artists paint, stain, write. It is a painting-writing composed of signs, ideograms. It can also be a sort of free “figuration”. To cite a few examples, Wolfgang Stifter covers sheets of newspapers with calligraphies, in a dialogue with other writings and traces. Robert Mittringer occupies with authority and know-how a fragment of canvas, paper or cardboard with materials like ashes, chalk and red sand. Rudolf Haas erases images on amounts of supports recuperated in the day to day flow and creates a new dialogue, in the present. Every artist is marking the pictorial space with his hand, in a gestural act, sometimes controlled, sometimes totally liberated, inviting to explore and question the universe he is living in, with vehemence and passion.
Among the “13 Glorious” artists presented, some of them like Wolfgang Stifter have created monumental public works and participated to numerous biennials (Tokyo, Kyoto, Grenchen (CH), Cracovia (PL). Hans Hoffmann has been awarded many times (Rome, Wels (A). Besides, for the first time, works by Haiba Haas will be shown. A confrontation of diverse expressions, in an exhibition of high level that should not be missed.
